PLDT's NGN

I got this from PLDT's Annual Report 2005, "Broadbanding the Future". NGN, Next Generation Network as they call it, is some sort of bundled package of DSL-W or SMART WiFi/Bro.

Simply put, NGN is the coming together of voice, data and video in a single network.
I wonder how good the service is. Our ISP in school is Meridian Wireless (now SMART WiFi) and the service is so bad. Also, I haven't heard any good feedback from the wireless broadband services of SMART and PLDT. Anybody in Cavite who got to try this?
In late 2005, residents of several residential subdivisions in Cavite, where traditional phone facilities were sorely lacking, finally had PLDT phones connected to their homes. These subscribers were the first NGN subscribers in the country.
Is the video being provided IPTV? The voice, VoIP? The article says they're using non-proprietary equipment. Are they using Asterisk and/or ATAs? Maybe we'll find out if this surfaces more.
With the first NGN lines already installed, PLDT plans to increase the capacity to at least 300,000 lines by end-2006.
Due to PLDT and SMART's nasty reputation in wireless internet services, it could be doom for those who'll get tricked to switch.
NGN lines will first be rolled out in such areas as Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan where landlines are in short supply. Eventually, these facilities will be installed in area where existing customers will be migrated from traditional telephony to the bold new world of NGN communications.

its so bad! i know it because i'm using one! and I can't wait to actually switch to bayantel or globe (512 KBps for 1500 a month like what pldt had before but whats good about it is being a gentxt member because you only pay 995 a month for that speed).

here are some of the smart wifi or smart bro (formerly known as meridian telekoms, smart wifi and pldt dsl-w) links you can check out to see how bad their service are..

smartbro.r8.org
and some topics from tipidpc.com

I believe this is different from SMART WiFi/Bro. But it could be in the same network.

This could be a rebrand or repackage of SMART WiFi again though.

NGN, if it is Smart bro, smart bro is the new PLDT DSL-W they merged it with smart wifi and yun nga out come is Smart BRO... and I'm guessing that this might be the Fiber Optic DSL thats in beta testing as of now pero from the location stated i'm guessing its SMART BRO, where they are trying to reach those places na walang internet connection..

or

PLDT WEroam?? hehe

PLDT WeRoam is a different thing, although still in the same network except GPRS. By the way, how fast can SMART BRO go? What's the 1337 package?

i don't know, i only know the 999 one thats has 384 KBps, but there are some lucky subscribers that do reach 300 KBps, but mostly below 200 Kbps and the worst is most users reach only at dial-up speed.

maybe the 1335 is for the cellphone line rates..

I know how it feels we get that kind of downtime in school, sometimes it lasts for a whole day.

Im using smart bro, paying Php788/mo and my connection speed "sometimes" reach 300+kbps, my normal connection is between 100-200kbps according to mcaffee speedometer...

bihira na din magdown ang service nila sa area namin, sana magtuloy-tuloy. Ewan ko lng sa ibang area...

"wow! positive feedback!"

Wow. That is indeed odd. It seems that the testing phases are almost over. I feel bad for those who signed up too early. It's like being a pioneer in school, everything's an experiment and you're the lab rat.

100 - 200 Kbps and up is just right for you and 300 kbps is most likely burst speed. Reason your paying 788 a month and thats the old smart wifi/br plan that is 288 or 256 Kbps connection.

3 months nalang ako with smart bro and i'm excited to switch to bayantel or globe.
